What can I say about this special little doe? Her dam is one of my very
special favorite does and she has a lovely full sister in the herd. Rone is named after her big sister, Tempo I'm the Right One....who we
lost to a bad kidding just a month before Rone was born. And so we named
her after her big sister. Rone's dam is a beautiful doe that excels in
every area of the scorecard. She appraised 91 EEEE just a month after
kidding this year.
Rone was a tiny baby, born 10 days early when her dam showed signs of
toxemia from carrying quads. Rone was a very slow kid to grow...she
didn't particularly like milk and never stuffed herself like the rest of
our kids. Although healthy she was still well behind the rest of the
yearlings in late winter. I decided Rone needed special treatment and
moved her into a milking pen and let her come out with the milkers. She
is not a particularly bossy doe and she thrived with her special
treatment catching up to the rest of the yearlings by this summer.
Rone is nearly identical to her full sister, Kat,
who we loved as a first freshening 2 year old and she'd gotten even
better as a 2nd freshener. Judging from her older sister who was also
slow to mature, we expect that Rone will take more time to come into her
own but we feel she will be worth the wait!
Rone was well worth the wait
but she had rough year. She started out with a 10# doeling with her head
back. Despite all my experience I could not get the kid so we loaded Rone up
and took her to the University of MN Large Animal hospital where,
despite their combined skill, she ended up with a C-section. While the
C-section was very successful, Rone got inhalation pneumonia from the
surgery and was extremely sick for over a month. She finally was able to
throw it off but it did affect her production for the rest of her
lactation. Rone's beautiful Max daughter turned out to be one of
our best kids this year! Rone appraised a respectable 84 GGGG as a 1st
freshener. The appraiser had a lot of nice things to say about her and
we feel we will see a lot of increased size with another lactation.
Rone will be bred back to Max for January kids. 1st doeling retained. |
